Stephen Dale Petit

19/09/2020

Stephen Dale Petit is a guitarist, singer, songwriter and pioneer in New Blues music & is widely recognised as a major architect of the New Blues Revolution. He has released five albums, toured extensively around the United Kingdom and Europe, gaining recognition, sizeable sales and widespread radio airplay. Petit's 1st & 2nd releases ("Guitararama" and "The Crave") saw both commercial success & critical acclaim.
His playing style was by Classic Rock Magazine as containing "The fire of Freddie King, the instinct of Jimmy Page and the soul of Eric Clapton". This moved former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor to comment: "He’s got his own unique take on contemporary blues… I’ve heard him do a great live version of Freddie King’s "Have You Ever Loved a Woman?" It was wonderful. All his albums are very interesting, he deserves the recognition."
We can't wait to welcome Stephen to The Rec Rooms stage.

A Band Called Malice

09/10/2020

The boys are back for another heart stopping evening of crazy music and dancing.

A Band Called Malice was formed when frontman Andy Coultas decided to create a new band. A band to recreate the sound of The Jam with the attitude and feel of the original line up. Finding musicians to do this was not an easy task as the people in the band had to be of exceptional standard, able to sing, able to commit, love The Jam, and of course be fit and agile enough to reproduce the live performance of Weller, Foxton and Buckler.

Tankus the Henge

13/11/2020

Tankus the Henge have built their reputation on unforgettable songwriting, spectacular live performances and relentless hard work, playing hundreds of shows across Europe and building a devoted fan base along the way. “..I love that. It reminds me of a mixture of early Kinks, Squeeze and a bit of Blur mashed in. His voice is his own, …so great. I love it.” Dave Davies – The Kinks Their funk-fuelled repertoire is wildly eclectic, ranging from New Orleans inspired swing to heavy rock riffs, and since their beginnings in the ratty alleyways of London’s Soho, the band has evolved into a wild groove machine. Musically inspired by bands from the British invasion of the 60s and artists such as Tom Waits, Blur, Randy Newman and Queens Of The Stone Age, and with lyrics influenced by 20th Century American Literature, specifically the Beat Generation and Gonzo journalism, Tankus the Henge defy categorisation. Their hair-raising show, like no other, has to be seen and heard to be believed. Like a psychedelic, rock n roll octopus – only with four more legs. THE CHRISTIANS

30/01/2021

The Christians are coming to The Rec Rooms! Described as "the Temptations in ripped jeans ......" by one rock critic, the Liverpool band's infectious melodies and warm harmonies have a deep emotional undercurrent. Feeding on accusations, protest, despair and even self-doubt, their "socially aware soul" made a big impact on the complacent music scene of the late 80s. The band's name came from the surname of the three brothers that were originally in the line-up (Garry, Russell and Roger Christian). It was also, coincidentally, their songwriter/guitarist/keyboards player Henry Priestman's middle name. Their 1987 double-platinum debut album, "The Christians", entered the album chart at No.2 and featured the Top 30 singles "Forgotten Town", "Hooverville, "Ideal World" and "Born Again". A sell-out tour of the major British cities followed, including consecutive nights at the Hammersmith Odeon, with additional appearances in Holland, Germany and France. In 1988 they released a cover of the Isley Brothers' "Harvest for the World", with all proceeds going to British Third-World charities. They also performed with other Liverpool artists Paul McCartney, Holly Johnson and Gerry Marsden on a version of "Ferry Cross The Mersey", released in aid of those affected by the Hillsborough football disaster. It stayed at No.1 for 3 weeks. Lead singer Garry Christian still sounds as good today as he did back then and the band are constantly touring as well as being invited to appear at many prestigious festivals. The Christians have made a name for performing a belting set packed full of the hits that bring back pure happiness and nostagia to the crowd. Described by Chris Evans as 'the best gig he's ever been to' The Christians are a reminder that not everything from the 80s was uncool! The surprising meaningful and appropriate songs combined with a voice that 'penetrates the soul' ... its not difficult to see why THE CHRISTIANS seem to be celebrating such a big resurgence! For more from The Christians you can head to their website here.
